Episode 226 - The legion of the mysterious Black X-1 VT Fighter, parts 1-2

Episode 226: The legion of the mysterious Black X-1 VT Fighter, parts 1-2

Oh noes! Not the chicken pots!

In the annals of human conflict, never before has one man been owed so much by so many as Brick. That's right, Brick Hecter, fall-down drunk, derelict of duty, a mechanic who harasses superior officers in public. But it's not all laughs and sunshine for our man Brick; sabotage is afoot aboard the SDF-1, and his struggle with his personal demons is only compounded by the appearance of a mysterious fighter full of improbable technology backed by a conspiracy that even a  three year old could see through. That's right, Legion of the Black X-1 may be the title, but really it's all about Brick.

Who's Brick?

  1. I was interested to see a Robotech fanfic show up, and right from "Capton Glovel" it didn't disappoint. It might have even surprised me; I must have skimmed the capsule description and figured "Brick Hecter" was the pilot of "the mysterious Black X-1 VT Fighter," and instead got treated to the regular cast. Whether there's more of it to see I don't know, but these sorts of fanfics are the ones that could be left dangling at any moment...

For some reason, noticing a reference to Ozma Lee sort of pleased me; in reading "Rebuild of DELTA" I was inclined to muse on how I've managed to keep "adapting" to anime as it is even as the old "anime MSTing" community drifted off into nothingness... whether there'd be categories like "Haruhi Suzumiya" and "Madoka Magica" in the Vault nowadays I don't know.

    1. Part two of Legion of the Black etc etc is provisionally set for either ep 226 or 227, just depending on B-Team fics. Either way, it’s one that I’ve really enjoyed working on, for reasons that should be obvious. It certainly didn’t disappoint and definitely becomes one of those fics that just keeps on giving. Certainly it’s not the only Robotech (or Macross, for that matter) fic we have in our line-up. And maybe not just fics…

While I can see that there would have been new sections in a hypothetical SVAM of 2013 such as those mentioned, I’ve personally found that there’s a higher turnover these days in the “big name” anime. Unlike in the 90s with short supplies where the same few franchises stuck around forever in the Western eye, nowardays the “big thing” anime usually lasts a year or two before turning over to the next “big thing.”
